2022 Healthcare Data Breach Report
The numbers of data breaches reported to the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in 2022 decreased by 1.13% from 2021. However, it was still the second-worst year for HIPAA compliance breaches. Cyberattacks and large data breaches resulted in significant financial losses for healthcare organizations, with the average cost of a healthcare data breach reaching $10.1 million in 2023. Moreover, a slightly lower number of vulnerable records, down to 51.9 million from 54.09 million, was noted.
