2023 healthcare data breaches set to outpace last year

Over 330 breaches, affecting 43 million people, have been reported by HIPAA-governed healthcare organizations as of July 23, nearing the 2022 total of 52 million. In response, U.S. Senator Mark Warner is developing legislation for minimum cybersecurity standards in the healthcare sector. This follows an IBM report revealing the average cost of healthcare data breaches at nearly $11 million.
