2024 outlook: Traditional care and faxes on the way out; retail care executes its plans

Laura Kreofsky, a health IT consultant, predicts shifts in healthcare in 2024, including fading traditional care models and further adoption of retail healthcare. Factors driving this include patients taking more control of their health, retailers like CVS and Walgreens playing bigger roles, and changing hospital functions. Community health centers will also play a more prominent role. The increasingly obsolete fax machine will finally disappear, replaced by digital tools for care coordination and information exchange.
