The annual M-Trends report by Google Cloud’s Mandiant reveals that major global incidents such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the exploitation of the Log4j vulnerability had a significant impact on the cybersecurity landscape in 2022. The government sector became the top target for cyber attacks, increasing from 9% in 2021 to 25% in 2022. About 80% of the incidents investigated by Mandiant involved software exploits, phishing attacks, stolen credentials, or used a previous compromise.
