30% of Americans have faced health data breaches this year
Over 25% of Americans have had their health data exposed in security breaches in 2023, marking a rise in ransomware and hacking attacks affecting approximately 87 million patients, according to Atlas VPN. In Q3 of 2023 alone, the data of more than 45 million patients was compromised, compared to 37 million patients in the entire year of 2022. The healthcare sector is a prime target due to its valuable data, and US healthcare organizations reportedly allocate a mere 6% of their IT budgets for cybersecurity.
