30% of Americans have faced health data breaches this year
Over a quarter of the U.S population has suffered health data exposure in security breaches this year. According to Atlas VPN, close to 87 million patients have been affected by an increase in ransomware attacks and hacking in 2023. Despite regulations requiring healthcare companies to report data breaches impacting over 500 people, attacks are escalating, with 45 million patient data compromised in the third quarter alone. The largest incident involved HCA Healthcare, where data for 11 million patients was stolen.
