US medical transcription firm, Perry Johnson & Associates (PJ&A), has confirmed that a cyberattack has exposed the personal and medical data of about 9 million individuals. Among the data stolen were patient names, addresses, medical records, hospital account numbers, and some social security numbers. Two of PJ&A’s clients, Northwell Health and Cook County Health, said that almost 5.1 million of their patients were affected. The nature of the breach is still unknown.
