While commonly thought of as immune to malware, an analysis finds Linux is increasingly seen as a target for cybercriminals using ransomware, malware, exploits, and social engineering. Last year saw a 62% increase in Linux ransomware attacks and widespread use of cryptominers, web shells, and rootkits. To help fight off such attacks, experts suggest regular software updates, careful email management, strong backup strategies, secure configurations, secure coding practices, user education, and use of supplemental security solutions.
