The race to secure an evolving public sector

Around 40% of 777 incidents recorded by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre between September 2020 and August 2021 impacted the public sector. The gap in public sector funding and lax security measures have allowed sophisticated cybercriminals to carry out tens of thousands of attempted and successful cyberattacks on public bodies each day. These attacks have disrupted key services and could be extremely costly. To counter the threat, experts suggest adopting a “triple layer” approach to security and striving for a more cyber-resilient public sector.
