Florida bans offshore health record storage
The Florida Electronic Health Records Act now requires that protected health information be stored in the continental U.S., its territories, or Canada. Healthcare providers must ensure that patient information in electronic health records is physically maintained in accordance with the law. Concerns arise regarding third-party vendors outside of the U.S. and Canada that may have access to patient records. Companies should assess where patient information is stored and limit access to third-party vendors outside of the specified regions.
