NHS Lanarkshire reprimanded after patient data shared over Whatsapp

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has reprimanded NHS Lanarkshire after an investigation found that 26 staff members sent sensitive patient data more than 500 times via WhatsApp. The data included personal information and clinical details. The ICO has recommended the NHS body to develop a secure clinical image transfer system and to implement a better data breach reporting structure among staff.
