Ransomware incident exposes medical data in Pennsylvania

Maternal & Family Health Services, a nonprofit organization in northeastern Pennsylvania, experienced a “sophisticated” ransomware attack from August 2021 to April 2022. Personal and financial data of potentially impacted patients, including Social Security numbers and medical information, may have been compromised. The organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. Ransomware attacks are a growing threat to both for-profit and nonprofit healthcare organizations. The organization is working to strengthen its systems’ security.
