Adam Ang November 2, 2022

Osaka General Medical Center in Japan had a system outage due to a ransomware attack on its EMR system, affecting around 1,000 patients. The hospital has postponed non-emergency outpatient services and is using paper records. This is the fourth known cyber incident involving Japanese hospitals this year, and there is suspicion of possible involvement of pro-Russian groups. Claroty, a cybersecurity firm, emphasizes the importance of securing cyber-physical devices and implementing patching procedures and network segmentation to mitigate the impact of ransomware attacks.
