Norfolk Police’s Recent Data Leak

After a freedom of information request was filed, personal details for around 1,230 victims, witnesses and suspects were unintentionally exposed in a data breach by the Norfolk and Suffolk police. The police blamed a technical issue for attaching raw data to the request. Critics argue that the incident highlights systemic issues with centralised, digitised systems and the vulnerability of individuals’ data. In response, the police are contacting those affected and have set up a dedicated team to answer related queries.
