India dismisses CoWIN vaccination data leak

India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has denied claims that the government’s vaccination portal, CoWIN, has been hacked. Reports alleged that personal data of over 20,000 people, including names, ages, and COVID-19 test results, were leaked and put up for sale. The ministry stated that no data had leaked and emphasized that the platform does not collect addresses or test results. This comes after a previous alleged hack in June involving personal data of 150 million people. In Indonesia, a data breach in the government’s COVID-19 test-and-trace app affected around 1.3 million people.
