Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) has sent notification letters to patients after a cyber incident in October. PPLA detected suspicious activity on its network, and an unauthorized person gained access and installed ransomware. Around 400,000 patients’ information was in the affected files, but there is no evidence of fraudulent use. The incident, which occurred during a Supreme Court case related to reproductive healthcare, raises concerns about the exposure of personal information. The breach, although significant, is not the most severe reported in 2021.
