NHS patient data breach could have big implications

Personal data, including medical procedures and test results, of tens of thousands of NHS patients has been leaked. The breach was caused by the Preston-based consultancy firm, PSL Print Management. A disgruntled employee obtained a memory stick that contained patient’s names, addresses and phone numbers, which had no double security measures added. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) announced it was opening an investigation after being informed by the NHS. The violations could result in a large fine and possible criminal proceedings.
