Scripps Health network still down, 2 weeks after cyberattack

Scripps Health, a San Diego-based health system, is still offline more than two weeks after a cyberattack. User access to IT applications, including the patient portal, remains suspended. While details about the attack are limited, experts believe it involved ransomware and speculated that negotiations with the perpetrators are ongoing. In Ireland, a ransomware attack on the health service IT system has led to disruptions in patient care, with radiology services and outpatient appointments canceled. The attack is believed to be carried out by international criminals, but Ireland has vowed not to pay any ransom. Legacy technology and operating systems, increased reliance on telehealth and remote work, and limited resources for cybersecurity make the healthcare industry vulnerable to cyberattacks.
