Banner Health, a Phoenix-based health system, has agreed to pay $200,000 to settle potential violations of the HIPAA Privacy Rule’s right of access standard. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights received complaints that Banner Health failed to provide timely access to medical records. This settlement is part of OCR’s Right of Access Initiative, which aims to enforce patients’ rights to obtain timely copies of their medical records.
