Major security incidents are the new normal for hospitals and health systems
The 2020 HIMSS Healthcare Cybersecurity Survey reveals that healthcare organizations are experiencing significant security incidents, with breaches, ransomware, and phishing attacks becoming more common and disruptive. Financial and employee information are the main targets for attackers, followed by patient information. Patient safety impacts are likely underreported, and many organizations lack effective mechanisms for detecting patient safety issues. Despite the increasing risk, cybersecurity budgets remain insufficient, and many healthcare organizations are still using outdated technologies. Business continuity and disaster recovery plans also need improvement.
