Russian hackers have targeted a Milwaukee-based cloud hosting firm, potentially endangering the safety of nursing home patients. The hackers used the Ryuk ransomware, demanding a $14 million bitcoin ransom for the decryption key. The attack has affected electronic health record and medication administration data, with the nursing home organizations being the main clients of the affected firm. Ryuk ransomware attacks have been increasing in frequency and targeting smaller operations. VCPI is currently working to restore access to critical data.
