AHIMA, CHIME, others lobby Capitol Hill for unique patient ID

The American Health Information Management Association and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives are pushing for the removal of the ban on federal funding for research into a unique patient identifier. They argue that this would improve patient matching, protect privacy, and reduce medical errors. The House of Representatives recently voted to repeal the ban, and the organizations are now calling on the Senate to do the same.
