Health data security exposures doubled in one year, report says
The exposure of medical-related data has increased by 50% in the past year, with around 4.7 million files exposed through online file stores, according to a report from Digital Shadows. Most of the exposed data were DICOM imaging files, commonly used within a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) architecture. The report highlighted the misconfiguration of file storage technologies as the main cause of the data exposure. Healthcare providers are being advised to secure all servers within a PACS architecture to prevent further breaches.
