Update: Misconfigured database breaches thousands of MedCall Advisors patient files

North Carolina-based healthcare solutions vendor, MedCall Healthcare Advisors, has been found to have leaked protected personal data for the second time in one month through a misconfigured Amazon S3 storage bucket. The exposed data included patient names, contact information, Social Security numbers, and detailed personal health information. MedCall’s CEO acknowledges the mistake and states that they will improve their security measures going forward. It is unclear if MedCall is covered under HIPAA, but the affected patients should still be notified under state laws.
