Cybercriminals to launch more ransomware attacks as black market price of health data drops
The price of electronic healthcare records (EHRs) on the dark web is decreasing, causing an increase in ransomware attacks. The cost of a health record now ranges from $20 to $50, down from $75 to $100 last year. Hackers are now selling full, long-form records on the dark web a few months after a breach. Pam Dixon, founder of World Privacy Forum, believes that this influx of EHRs will lead to an increase in ransomware attacks. Healthcare executives need to address structural issues relating to data security in order to stay ahead of cybercriminals.
