A new survey by Ponemon reveals that the average cost of a data breach per record is $158 globally, but for healthcare organizations it increases to $355. The study also found that appointment of a CISO, employee training, awareness programs and a business continuity management strategy can result in cost savings for healthcare incident response plans. The biggest cost of a data breach is lost business, and hackers and criminal insiders are the main causes of breaches. Healthcare organizations should deploy encryption and endpoint security to prevent breaches.
