Hackers have gained access to an agency server at the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, compromising the personal information of 1.3 million people. The breach was not discovered until May 2014, despite hackers likely gaining access in July 2013. This is one of the largest HIPAA breaches ever reported and the largest hacking-related breach to date. The department will be providing affected clients with credit monitoring services. Another breach occurred in February when hackers accessed a server at St. Joseph Health System, compromising the information of 405,000 individuals.
