Walgreens company announces data breach

Walgreens healthcare company, Crescent Healthcare, has notified patients and employees of a data breach after computer hardware and paper records containing personal health information and Social Security numbers were stolen. The theft occurred in December 2012 and the company has taken steps to prevent this from happening again. This is the not the first HIPAA breach for Walgreens, with a previous incident in December resulting in a settlement payment of nearly $16.6 million.
