Researchers find Petya ransomware vaccine, but no kill switch
The Petya ransomware is still spreading globally, and a kill switch has yet to be found. However, researcher Amit Serper may have found a vaccine for uninfected computers. By creating a read-only file in the Windows folder, the virus will exit and not encrypt the computer. This is a preventative measure, not a permanent solution. Those already infected will likely not be able to retrieve their files.
