Wireless networks show potential for monitoring patients’ breathing

Researchers at the University of Utah are developing wireless networks that can measure the breathing of surgery patients, adults with sleep apnea, and babies at risk of SIDS. By using off-the-shelf wireless transceivers, the system is predicted to be cheaper than existing methods of monitoring breathing. The researchers estimate that it will take five years before the product is on the market.
