Healthcare websites beat out social media as a health resource
News sites and health magazines’ websites, as well as WebMD, remain the most trusted online healthcare resources, according to a survey by Makovsky + Company. User-generated contributions on platforms like Wikipedia and social media sites are used less frequently. WebMD is the most popular health search site, with almost half of Americans visiting the site. The US Federal government is seen as the most credible source of healthcare information, and pharmaceutical company-sponsored pages are the least visited. Patients are creating online communities but still rely on reputable sources for trusted information.
