University offers new way to measure HIE performance
The Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS) at the University of Maryland has developed a framework to help states and Washington, D.C., create sustainable networks for the exchange of electronic health records (EHRs). The framework evaluates the value creation and sustainability of the business model, organizational structure, technology, community engagement, and trust in the system of health information exchanges (HIEs). The DC Regional Health Information Organization (DC RHIO) was rated among the top 20% in the country and was provided recommendations to improve sustainability.
