Can Google’s DeepMind solve the world’s health problems with your medical records?
Google’s DeepMind is partnering with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and London Moorfields eye hospital to develop artificial intelligence technology to help solve healthcare problems. DeepMind will study vast amounts of patient data to create an app that can notify physicians of patients at risk of acute kidney injury or possible sight problems. However, concerns have been raised about the privacy and security of patient data, as data shared with DeepMind has not always been anonymised. DeepMind co-founder, Mustafa Suleyman, stated that AI technology cannot yet directly aid patient care.
