ICO reprimands NHS Highland for “serious” data breach

NHS Highland has been reprimanded by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a serious data breach involving patients likely to be accessing HIV services. The health board emailed 37 people using CC instead of BCC, revealing the recipients’ email addresses to all. The ICO has called for more robust data protection among HIV service providers considering the potential stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with HIV.
