The paradox of Meta’s anti-malware efforts amidst enabling cybercriminal exploits
Facebook’s parent company, Meta, is both making efforts to detect and disrupt malware campaigns, but also enables cybercriminals to target users via ads on its platform that prompt malware downloads. Meta argues it depends on advertisers to ensure ad legitimacy and compliance with policies, as it does not manually review every ad before it is posted. Despite warnings to users to exercise caution, Meta continues to accept paid ads and sponsored posts from cybercriminals.
