Singapore victims lost S$1.2 million to Android malware scams in September

Around S$1.2 million ($875,000) was lost in Singapore in September through Android malware scams promoting travel packages on social media. The scams attracted at least 43 victims who downloaded malicious files providing scammer with access to their banking details. The Singapore Police Force have suggested protections including utilising antivirus software and avoiding downloads from “unknown sources”. Politician Sylvia Lim has called for banks to reimburse victims, but was met with resistance.
