At least S$1.2 million lost to Android malware scams involving travel package ads

Scammers conned victims into downloading an APK file, enabling remote access to steal banking credentials. The victims later discovered unauthorized transactions. The Singapore Police Force advised the public to protect themselves by installing the ScamShield app and antivirus apps, keeping devices updated, disabling “install unknown app”, not granting permissions to persistent pop-ups, only downloading from official app stores, and verifying the legitimacy of an app before downloading.
