Studies show ransomware has already caused patient deaths

Ransomware attacks on hospitals have increased in recent years, and despite no deaths being directly attributed to them, evidence suggests they cause significant disruptions, which could lead to loss of life. Recent studies show increased patient mortality rates following cyberattacks at medical facilities. A 2021 report from the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency noted similar strains on hospitals from ransomware attacks to those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
