Your Cheap Android TV Streaming Box May Have a Dangerous Backdoor

Human Security identifies app-based fraud element “Peachpit” which affected 39 applications on Android, iOS, and TV boxes, including fitness and hydration tracker apps, displaying fraudulent ads and simulating web traffic. It is thought to be connected with “Badbox”, an Android backdoor. Google and Apple have both taken action, but despite measures that have seen a significant drop in fraudulent ad-requests, the “Badbox” malware remains on consumer devices awaiting further instruction, highlighting risks of purchasing non-brand IoT devices.
