New ‘MetaStealer’ malware targets Intel-based macOS systems
New malware ‘MetaStealer’ is stealing sensitive data from Intel-based macOS computers. It can evade Apple’s antivirus tech XProtect and targets business users, distributing via social engineering methods. Although similar to Atomic Stealer, it operates differently. Analysis by cyber security firm SentinelOne reveals MetaStealer is attached to phishing emails as deceptively named executables. The malware attempts to steal passwords, files and app data, and specifically targets keychain, Telegram and Meta services. Currently, it can’t compromise macOS systems running on Apple Silicon processors.
