Police warn new Android malware scam can factory reset phones; over S$10 million lost in first half of 2023

Singaporean police have issued a warning about a new Android malware scam, which has tricked over 750 victims into downloading it, leading to losses of at least S$10 million ($7.3 million) in H1 2023. The scam involves stealing internet banking credentials and executing unauthorized transactions via victims’ phones before performing a factory reset.
