Hacked Skype accounts are being used to spread malware

Hackers are using compromised Skype accounts to spread DarkGate malware, according to Trend Micro researchers. The malware, a malicious-as-service variant, is downloaded through a script disguised as a PDF file. The exact method of Skype account compromise remains uncertain, but leaked credentials or previous compromise of the parent organization is hypothesized. The same tactics were applied to Microsoft Teams. DarkGate malware usage has increased following the closure of Quakbot.
