Mind Doctor MAX PEMBERTON: Mixed sex hospital wards are not just undignified

Breaches of the rule which prevents men and women from being treated on the same ward in NHS facilities have tripled since the start of the pandemic, amounting to 25,000 violations in the six months to March 2023. These breaches do not involve trans people admitted to their preferred gender ward, but those placed on wards for the opposite sex. Past research has indicated increased physical risks and psychological distress from mixed-sex wards.
