Average Healthcare Data Breach Cost Reaches Nearly $11M
Data breaches in healthcare are now costing an average of $10.93m, representing a 53.3% rise over three years, according to an IBM report. In some cases, the costs were almost double those incurred by the financial sector. Ransoms demanded by cybercriminals from healthcare providers are often in the millions of dollars, according to the CEO of data privacy platform PrivacyHawk. An increase in data breaches is also expected this year, with patient numbers affected by breaches set to exceed last year’s total.
