NHS cyber security ‘crisis’ fuelled by huge landscape, low digital maturity

Cybersecurity threats are increasing in the healthcare sector, particularly for the NHS due to its massive scale and insufficient digital maturity. In 2023, 1,383 cyberattacks were recorded weekly compared to 797 in 2022, with ransomware among the most imminent threats. There has been criticism about the lack of clear national policies on cybersecurity. To tackle this, the UK’s Cyber Security Strategy for Health and Adult Social Care was released in March, aiming for sector-wide cyber resilience by 2030.
