No relief in sight for ransomware attacks on hospitals

siteadmin February 16, 2023

Despite a decline in activity, ransomware attacks on healthcare organizations continue to pose a threat to medical services and patient health. US hospitals were a popular target for these attacks, with up to 290 affected in 2022. Around 66% of healthcare organizations surveyed fell victim to such attacks that year, and 61% paid a ransom to resolve an incident. Recoveries from such attacks typically lasted a week and cost on average $1.85 million. Phishing attacks were also a common threat due to the fast-paced nature of healthcare workflow.
