Royal Mail hit by Russia-linked cyber attack

A ransomware attack linked to the LockBit hacker group has disrupted the UK’s Royal Mail overseas deliveries. LockBit, believed to have Russian connections, targeted the systems used for preparing and tracking overseas items. The firm is advising customers not to send parcels or letters abroad until the issue is resolved. The attackers issued a ransom note and the demanded sum is estimated to be in the millions. The company alerted the National Cyber Security Centre, National Crime Agency, and the Information Commissioner’s Office.
