Medical Procedure: How a Misconfigured Storage Bucket Exposed Medical Data

Nearly 14,000 documents, containing financial, medical and personal data were exposed in a significant data breach by Medico Inc., a healthcare billing and insurance data processing firm. The exposed data, which included bank account details, routing numbers, insurance details and social security numbers, was discovered by the UpGuard Data Breach Research Team in an unsecured Amazon S3 data bucket. The exposure highlights, once again, the need for improved data protection in the healthcare industry.
