Police Advisory On Malware Spreading Through Advertisements Involving Travel Packages

In September 2023, police noted a variant of a malware scam, affecting at least 43 victims and causing losses of around $1.2M. Perpetrators used ads for travel packages on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram, asking victims to download an Android Package Kit (APK) through WhatsApp for booking, stealing their banking information in the process. The police strongly advised against downloading apps from third-party sources and urged people to learn how to prevent scams.
