Central District of California | Qakbot Malware Disrupted in International Cyber Takedown

The US Justice Department has coordinated a multinational operation to dismantle Qakbot, a notorious botnet and malware controlled by a cybercriminal organization. The botnet, which led to losses for victims worldwide, primarily infected computers via spam emails. The operation included the seizure of over $8.6 million in cryptocurrency, removing the malware from victim computers, and represents the largest US-led financial and technical disruption of such infrastructure. Qakbot’s reach included more than 200,000 computers in the US alone.
